Serialized day-to-day stuff again.
I honestly believe it is a parallel universe.

Had this utterly weird dream where it was 3 million years in the future, a la Red Dwarf, and for some reason I was there. The ship made it back to earth. I just remember peaking around a building and seeing Simulants standing around a fire, laughing. It was dark but also middle of the afternoon. They saw me and started shooting at me. So I ran. I ran down a hill that was near my junior school, then I heard this incredible narrating voice over my head saying 'he ran and ran, and they never caught him'. When I heard that, I said in my dream wait, is that true? Why the hell am I running then? Then I slowed down and walked normally. Cocky even.
Then I woke up.

Funny dream last night after a stretch of uninteresting ones.
A friend and I are in a beautiful airport that looks more like a glass-covered atrium. We’re flying to France to take a class, and I haven’t read the assigned reading material, which is this dense, depressing realist novel, i.e., exactly the sort of book I don’t like. We have an all-important exam that day and I’m wondering how I’ll pull it off without reading the book. My friend isn’t talking to me that much. We turn a corner in the air-atrium and have to go through security. Instead of putting our luggage on a conveyer belt and walking through a metal detector, we have to crawl through a tunnel. This way, I know in the dream, only the people who really want to travel will get on the plane. No, that doesn’t make any sense. When I get out of the tunnel, dragging my bags behind me, my friend has disappeared. I realize that he’s already boarded the plane.
Now that I’m on the other side of the tunnel, the airport isn’t as beautiful. It actually looks like the interior of a junior high school around the corner from where I live. I walk to the school gym, where I realize the runway is for the airport. I glance in the gym and see a few planes in there. Then I turn to a desk near the gym doors. I give the gate attendant my boarding pass; he scans it but then says my flight has already left. I’m late by a half hour, even though my friend got there right before me and I know he’s on the plane.
Luckily, the gate agent has another flight for me at 11 a.m. that day. (I’m there at 8 a.m.) Great! I think. I’ll have time to read this book for class!
I seem to remember being on the plane, but I don’t remember getting on. Besides that, that’s all I remember.

You guys ever dream that you’re back in grade school? I’ve had literally hundreds of dreams like that over the last decade. My subconscious must really miss childhood.

Ocassionally mine will shift to high school or college. But 95% of the time I’m back in my original grade school. Curiously, I never seem to dream about my junior high- which was actually a really fun and happy time.

I keep expecting one day to hear they really found one there.

I keep expecting one day to hear they really found one there. That’s an interestingly specific thing. Where does the passage usually lead? My middle school was one of the most poorly designed buildings I’ve ever been in—a sprawling maze of confusing hallways, weird nooks, and random dead ends. At the time there were also these bizarre metal trailers in the backyard where we also had classes because there weren’t enough classrooms. One reason for the classroom shortage was that the architect apparently decided to squish most of the classrooms into one small area in the back of the school. All the classrooms were on the opposite end from the gym, which was only connected to the main building by one hallway near the main office. The whole thing was like going to school in the Winchester Mystery House. So funnily enough a secret passageway wouldn’t be out of place there, and usually in my dream it runs from that back corridor of classrooms to the gym. Probably because it was impossible to get from class to the gym in the five-min. period between bells and my subconscious wants to make a better way.

The dream certainly makes sense given that context. It reminds me of these staircases in my elementary school that were off limits during school hours. They went from the back of the kitchen to backstage of the auditorium. Sometimes during after hours events some of us would sneak back there and use them like it was some super cool super secretive mission.

Yeah, the areas you’re not allowed into are always captivating when you’re a kid. In elementary and middle school my classmates and I were always kind of fascinated by the showers in the gym locker rooms. Sounds nuts, I know, but the water had long been turned off, making them just these weird, dark, cobweb-filled, kinda spooky rooms.

I must’ve jinxed myself by talking about the stretch of uninteresting dreams. Last night I had these:
1. I am in a school that’s a mix of my high school and college. One of the teachers I see is my high-school film teacher, except that he doesn’t look anything like how I did when I was in high school. In real life he was a large, nearly entirely bald man with a white goatee who wore a black t-shirt and jeans every day. In dream-world he’s younger, he has dyed black hair, and he’s dressed like a biker.
I say hi and wow-you-look-different to me him on my way to a class taught in the school basement by a guy who looks like Jason Alexander. The class has a test that day and I realize with horror that I haven’t done any reading or studying for the class the whole semester. Professor Costanza passes out the test booklets; all of us students aren’t sitting at desks but at whatever random chairs and tables we can find around the room. I’m sitting at a table right next to another student.
I read the questions and am trying to figure out how to bullshit the answers when Prof. Costanza calls me over. He says he has to leave the school immediately and he’s trusting me to proctor the test. He’s really laying it on thick about how trustworthy I am and I’m the only person he knows won’t cheat, etc. I start brooding over the moral dilemma, and that’s all I can remember.
2. I’m in a haunted house where I’m staying with my cousin and uncle. (I’m pretty sure I’ve had a dream about this place—which as far as I know doesn’t exist—before.) It’s a nondescript place, looks like it hasn’t been lived in for a while because, at least in the living room, all the furniture is gone. But there are actually people living in it; if you turn the corner a woman is cooking in the kitchen. I don’t know why my uncle, cousin, and I are staying in the house.
The place has this creepy feeling to it for no particular reason; I just know it’s haunted. The living room, which is painted gray, has one wall with doors that have been painted over. Next to those is a wooden door (not painted over) that is locked and leads to the basement. If you’re facing the painted-over doors, there is a row of windows to your right. No windows at all to the left, which kind of makes the room claustrophobic. Also, our bedrooms are off to the left.
At some point in the dream I hear sounds. They’re coming from the basement, but for some reason I think the center of the haunting isn’t the basement but the room behind the painted-over doors. So I grab a paint scraper, get the doors open, and go in the room. It’s just a boring-looking bathroom, though I still have the creepy feeling in there. That’s as far as I can remember.
Oof.

By the way, I don’t know if this a pandemic-related thing or what, but for the last few months I keep waking up with a sense that the events that happened in my dreams actually took place. As if they’re happening in a parallel universe, like you said, President Ackbar mini™. I’ve had this feeling before but never as strongly; it’s really pretty scary, because half the time I have trouble remembering if something actually happened or not.

Had a dream this morning where I was in a house with no exit. Every door led to a new hallway or closet. And there were other people in there too trying to get out.
Pretty sure I’ve had this one before. Not sure what it means.

Lots of people trying to get out of an area, but trapped Is something stressing you out more than usual right now? It could also be COVID, of course.

Weird one this morning... I was swimming in a lake- which is not something I would do in real life. It was really beautiful and serene but I got this sudden sense of impending danger. I look to the opposite shore and a bunch of crocodiles are entering the water! So I climb out and the rocks are filled with snakes. Suddenly I get worried about my cat, who was not in the dream before. She appears and I close my bedroom door to keep her out. Which of course makes no sense. Is the lake in my bedroom?! I love how random ridiculous inaccuracies like that seem completely normal in a dream. I don’t remember much else, but at some point I was walking through a supermarket in wet clothes.

I actually dreamed valkyrie took me off to fight for Valhalla last night, where I proceeded to die very quickly. I hate when my own dreams decide to comment on my utter lack of battle prowess.

James Bond dream last night! Completely random. I am reading Diamonds are Forever off and on so that’s probably why he’s on my mind… We’re in the villain’s lair, which is a big luxury ocean liner. I think the dream started on this ship before it became a Bond dream because I was talking to my cousin about a ferry ride yesterday. But anyway I end up in a room with Bond (Daniel Craig) and some woman. Nothing sexual, fully clothed, but I am in bed with them. For some reason it’s imperative that I log into my email so I try to do that on a giant iPad the size of half of the bed. Suddenly I remember that Sean Connery has died, but I’m not positive so I ask Bond. He confirms and I get really sad- to the point where he’s annoyed with me. A shady looking waiter shows up with the fanciest dessert I’ve ever seen. It looks like sparkling gems or something. I start eating. Bond leaves but I don’t want to follow because the food is so good. And then it morphed into a different dream entirely.

First weird one in a while last night:
My friend and I are in this alternate dream-Boston I’ve dreamt of before. It has a massive canal running through the city that huge yachts sail through. We must get on one of the boats, which is a ferry but looks like a yacht, because soon we’re cruising the Mediterranean to an Italian harbor city in Eastern Europe where they speak French. (Yes.)
I am sitting in a lounge chair on the front deck and fall asleep as I see the lights of the harbor twinkle in the distance. When I wake up the boat has docked and we’re in the city.
My friend tells me we have to take COVID-19 tests to get in whatever country we’re visiting. I say, “Oh no, I didn’t get a test,” and he says the authorities tested me while I was asleep. I feel violated and mad—at them for doing the test without my knowledge, at him for letting it happen.
We go into the hotel. We’re there for a college class, apparently, and have to wait in a long line sectioned off with stanchions, like at an airport. Finally I get up to a woman standing there with an iPad. She checks me in. I speak in French to her, but for all I know I could have been saying gibberish. Then she checks my friend in.
I say to him, “It’s so good to have you back in the U.S.! Do you want to catch up? We can go to my room for a nightcap.” Yes, I use the word nightcap. He says no, he’s tired and wants to go to bed. Then some high school classmates come out of the elevator and invite my friend and me to a party they’re having. That’s all I remember.

I’m having the usual recurring back in junior high school dreams again. Probably because it’s September and I always get nostalgic for that era in fall. Last one had me going down an endless maze of hallways, unable to find the right classroom. The walls were psychedelic rainbow colors. It ended with me trying to talk with a pretty girl and then choking on a Lifesaver which I wasn’t even eating seconds earlier. It just randomly appeared lodged in my throat. And yet somehow in the dream I knew it was green. Weird.

Scary, awful dream this morning:
I’m some kind of teacher at an elementary school. The class goes for a assembly in the lunch room that gets hijacked by this costumed assailant who shoots anyone who doesn’t do what he says. One of the things he does is make us come up with new verses to songs from The Prince of Egypt and Pirates of Penzance. (No, I have no idea either.) Whenever anyone passes by we have to pretend it’s a normal school assembly or he’ll shoot us all.
One security guard comes in and isn’t so convinced everything’s normal, so the assailant shoots him. A bunch of the kids start crying and we the teachers comfort them. I see the dead security guard has a gun and I grab it.
Another security guard soon drives into the room in a smart car. He’s not concerned, but I fire off the gun, and the whole assembly goes into chaos. The assailant shoots this guard, but I charge the killer using pieces from the car for protection and shoot him.
We’re trying to figure out how to go from there when I wake up.

Crazy nightmare last night. I only remember the end: I’m dressed up like Santa for some reason, beard and all. This kid comes up and asks if I’m really Santa. I say yes. The kid then pinches my nose closed and puts a hand over my mouth to smother me. I wake up in terror.
