One of the greatest RPGs of all time, and easily one of the more coherent Time Travel stories out there with consistent rules and real consequence in-game for every change you make. The story follows Chrono, a young man from the kingdom of Guardia as he goes to the Millennial Fair (it's the year 999, about to turn 1000, in the setting) and gets swept up in a massive journey to prevent a dark alien god that's been sleeping deep in the depths of the earth from causing the Apocalypse that spans the entire history of his world when his inventor best friend's contraptions goes wrong, flinging him and his new girlfriend into the Medieval Ages. It's a fun, silly, dark, surreal, often intentionally absurdist, and tragic tale (yes, all at once) with a creative but simple battle system and gameplay that changes just enough over the course of the game to keep on your toes, but never so much you feel like you're suddenly playing a different game. Despite being one of the most beloved games on the SNES, it has only one... eh, I hesitate to call it sequel. It has one other game set in the same universe called Chrono Cross. And nothing else for 22 years now no matter how much its sizable fandom begs and pleads for more. And believe me, they have been begging and pleading for more. For 22 years. What? We're persistent. 9/10
Seriously, Square-Enix, just make Chrono Break and finish the trilogy you promised back in the 90s.
